10 tips to avoid losing anything in a move

Mudanzas

Generally, when we decide to move, we do it happily and with a lot of desire to move to the new home but when the time comes, we face what we hate the most: "The move". And with the move comes the stress and strain, as you have to move all your belongings from one house to another, things start to come out that you didn't even know you had and other very important things that we don't want to lose for anything in the world. The questions we are faced with are where to start and how to organize all this?

So take a deep breath and relax, in this article we bring you the best tips to organize your move and not lose anything in the process.

Let's start the move

Before we start taking all our things out and packing them in boxes we must think about how we are going to move them, do we need a moving company? Is a friend who has a van going to help us? It is clear that the space we will need will depend on the number of things we are going to move. The idea is to be clear about how we are going to move it, whether it's plan A or B, so that when we have all the boxes in the house ready, we don't have to worry about where we are going to put them now. Afterwards, we should follow the following advice:

  1. Before you start packing, clean up and throw away everything you no longer use or need. If you haven't used it in the last year, you won't use it anymore. It doesn't make any sense to take it with you in a box to put it back in the back of a closet or drawer. Besides, the space they take up in the boxes is eventually subtracted from other necessities, you'll be carrying more boxes in the truck and that costs more money.
  2. Organize the boxesThe general rule is smaller boxes for heavy objects and larger boxes for light objects. This balances the weight, and makes it easier to move. Also, before you start filling them, put a number on them. Decide what will go in each box: kitchen utensils, bathroom items, books and CDs, clothes ...
  3. Save first the less used objects: that is, those that are not essential in your daily life, such as decorative ones. As for the clothes, save first the ones you are not wearing in the season, for example.
  4. Store soft items in trash bagsOne of the best ideas during a move. Soft items such as comforters, pillows, stuffed animals, etc. can be stored in sturdy garbage bags and filled in free spaces in the truck or van. This saves space and also protects your furniture and other items. It's good to seal the bag with duct tape so that the contents are protected. You should also mark the bags with a number to know what's inside, in this case a sticker can be useful.
  5. Create a list with what is in each box and bag, for this we have identified the boxes and bags with numbers. Knowing what's inside each box makes it easier to unload the objects, which can be left in the room where they will be stored directly. We do not advise you to describe the items directly on the packaging, as valuable items can attract a lot of attention. Through the list, you can quickly see if any box or object is missing. This will clearly help you not to lose anything in your move.
  6. Don´t forget to use bubble wrap to protect fragile objects such as crockery. It is important to place a fragile label on the box containing these objects so that the people helping us with the move take this into account.
  7. Leave the "final box" open for the night before keep what we forgot or what you needed until the last moment. You can prepare a "esencial kit" with what you'll need as soon as you get to your new home.

In the new house. Unpack

  1. We recommend you to start with the kitchen: with hunger and without cutlery, plates or food we will not order the rest of the boxes. So our first recommendation is to start with the kitchen.
  2. Prepare a plan: for example, on Tuesday we arranged the living room, on Wednesday the room...
  3. Atmosphere with music, helps you concentrate, keep up and not get overwhelmed. It even makes work fun.
  4. Don't leave anything unfinished: we already know what will happen to that box if it is not placed when we have just moved in.

With all these tips, you won't lose anything in your move, at least not without realizing it.

A move, finally, always brings new things and breaks the routine. It's a chance to start over and change everything you didn't like before. To do this, it is important that the new house we move into is what we were looking for and that it improves on the previous one, if not then remorse will set in and after so much work it is not what we want.
